(Peachtree City)- The National Weather Service at Peachtree City has released some preliminary stats for Georgia’s winter season which began December 1st and ended February 29th. Based on data from selected cities across the state, the weather service said average temperature for the winter season was 50.4 degrees. This was 3.5 degrees above the normal. The average rainfall total was 22.19 inches which was 9.63 inches above the expected normal.

Here in White County, this will be no surprise, our winter was warmer and wetter than normal. Based on averaged data from our three NOAA observation stations, our winter total rainfall was 24.27″ which is 6.20 inches above the normal of 18.07 inches. Our overall average temperature was 43.1 degrees which was 4 degrees warmer than the average normal of 39.1 degrees.

The weather service also said, December, winter’s first month, was the all-time warmest December since temperature measurements began in 1956. Our wettest month was December with 13.68 inches, second only to December, 1961’s record of 15.49 inches.

Now for the future, The NOAA Climate Prediction Center’s spring season projections show that northern Georgia is expected to have more-or-less normal temperatures and rainfall for the months of March, April and May.
