DAHLONEGA | University of North Georgia women’s basketball coach Buffie Burson has announced that four recruits have inked with the Nighthawks as part of the 2016 early signing period. Shawnia Anderson, Maddie Hetzel, Alli Jones and Shayna Lawrence have each signed to join the UNG women’s basketball team next season.

“Our UNG women’s basketball family could not be more pleased with the four talented players we signed in the early signing period,” stated Burson. “All four signees are great students and versatile players who fit our system extremely well. I can honestly see them all being impactful players for us very early in their careers. I think the Nighthawk Nation will be excited when they see these players on the court.”

Shawnia Anderson – 5’10 Forward, Cleveland (Tenn.) High School
– 5-AAA All-District forward
– Averaged 12.5 points and 8.0 rebounds per game as a junior

Coach Burson on Anderson: “Shawnia is a strong, physical player with the ability to play with her back to basket as well as shoot from outside. She’s also a fierce rebounder and plays a lot bigger than her size. Basketball runs in her family as both parents and both sisters played college basketball.”
