DAHLONEGA | Kelsey Hutchins came off the bench to score a game-high 24 points to lead the University of North Georgia women’s basketball team to a 69-63 non-conference win over Shorter on Wednesday afternoon in Memorial Hall.

North Georgia trailed by as many as 12 (16-4) midway through the first quarter, but used a 14-2 run of their own to tie the game at 18 apiece at the 7:11 mark of the second quarter.

UNG improves to 10-1 overall on the season with the win.

NOTES
– Hutchins hit 10-of-14 shots from the floor including both of her 3-point attempts, and has reaching double figures in scoring in nine consecutive games.

Cierra Jackson missed her seventh double-double of the year with 10 points and nine rebounds.

– With the score knotted at 54 with just over six minutes remaining, UNG’s Riley Slaton hit a layup off an assist from Jackson to ignite a quick 6-0 (60-54) run and give the Nighthawks their final lead of the game.

– The Hawks connected on 7-of-10 3-pointers in the first half, but went cold after intermission making good on only one of their 11 attempts from long range.

– Shorter (7-3) entered the game as winners of four of its last five games and was led in scoring by Madison Rice and Jackie Hudson as each scored 11 points apiece.

The Nighthawks jump back into Peach Belt Conference play on Saturday, Jan. 2 with a road trip to Milledgeville to take on Georgia College.
