(Flood Watch1-21-16Cleveland)- Everyone is talking about the winter blast that is forecast for the weekend, in addition to that weather officials say we have a threat of flash flooding late tonight through Saturday morning.

The National  Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch that includes White, Lumpkin, Towns Union and other northeast Georgia Counties. Forecasters say soils remain excessively wet across North Georgia with average stream flows of creeks and rivers above normal.

Widespread rain, occasionally heavy at times will develop over the watch area late tonight and continue through Friday evening.  Storm total rainfall around two inches can be expected generally north of Interstate 20.  The rain will transition to freezing rain … sleet or snow Friday night as cold air begins to dominate the region.

Flooding of streams… creeks and small rivers are possible with temporary street flooding  due to poor drainage and clogged storm drains where heavy rain occurs.

Those living in flood prone areas are urged to prepare for possible flooding conditions.
