(Cleveland)- The White County Board of Commissioners officially announced Tuesday the intent to increase 2016 county property taxes by 9.77% over the rollback millage rate. The commissioners, during a called meeting Tuesday morning, also scheduled dates for three public hearings concerning the tax increase.
The public is invited to attend the public hearings to be held at the White County Administration Building at 1235 Helen Hwy on the following dates: Monday, August first at 8:00 a.m.; Thursday, August 4th at 8:00 a.m. and Monday, August 8th at 6:00 p.m.
The expected tax increase will result in a county operating millage rate of 9.998 mills, an increase of point- 89 mills. The proposed tax increase for a home with a fair market value of $160,000.00 is approximately $56.96 and the proposed tax increase for non- homestead property with a fair market value of $130,000.00 is approximately $46.28.
The commissioners will vote on the millage rate at a called meeting following the August 8th public hearing.
