CLEVELAND | The Truett McConnell volleyball team split an AAC tri-match, defeating Bluefield in straight sets before falling to Montreat in a four-set match that was tightly contested from start to finish. The Bears are now 7-6 overall and 2-6 in AAC play.

TMU 3, Bluefield 0
The Bears played a near perfect first set, winning 25-13 over the Rams. TMU had 11 kills to just one error in the set.

After falling behind 8-6 in the first set, the Bears scored seven of the next nine points and the final 11 points of the set on Alex Brake‘s serving. Brake had two aces and an assist in the run.

TMU jumped out to an 11-4 lead in the second set behind Morgan Harris‘s serving and Hannah Simpson‘s kills. The Rams pulled the set to 22-21 late, but Brake again led the Bears at the service line to get the 25-21 set. TMU did the same thing in the third set, winning 25-20.

Truett McConnell had seven aces in the contest and six blocks. Harris led the Bears with four aces and Simpson led all players with nine kills.

Montreat 3, TMU 1
The Bears had a much tougher matchup with the Cavaliers after Montreat lost to Bluefield in the middle game of the tri-match. Montreat won the first set, 25-21, and led 19-17 in the second set before TMU started rolling. Kendall Hardy had a huge kill to put the Bears up, 22-21, and then Brake led the Bears at the service line again, getting the final two points of the set to give TMU a 25-23 win in set two.

Montreat went on to win the final two sets by scores of 25-18 and 25-19. The Cavaliers had 27 of their 55 kills in the final two frames, while the Bears were held to just 14 kills in the same time frame.
