burn-ban

(Cleveland)- Some people are apparently not aware that north Georgia is extremely dry and there is a total ban on outdoor burning in White County.   Local fire officials continue to answer brush and woods fire calls.

White County Public Safety Director David Murphy  says, locally they have not issued any citations, even though they do  have the authority to do so.  He said most people been nice, supportive and understanding when we extinguish the fire.

Murphy said they have had a couple of calls where people were not only in violation of the burn ban they were found to be burning illegal material.

According to Murphy if Georgia Forestry is called to the property the owner will get a bill for their services due to the burn ban being in effect.
