(Cleveland)- White County 9-1-1 was advised Tuesday night that a hiker was lost north of Helen, around Unicoi Gap. White County Public Safety Spokeswoman Ana Newberry advised in an email Wednesday morning that the hiker was actually located in Towns County.
Newberry said, after White County Fire personnel arrived on scene, they opened their maps and using information provided to them came to the conclusion the hiker was 16 miles away in Towns County.
White County Fire Chief Norman Alexander contacted Towns officials and confirmed that they were handling the situation.
According to Newberry, Towns County fire services contacted Chief Alexander at midnight Tuesday night to advised the hiker was safely with them.
