AUGUSTA, Ga. | The University of North Georgia men’s golf team has been named the 2014-15 recipient of the Team Sportsmanship Award announced by the league office on Tuesday. The Peach Belt Conference presents one such award for each of its 15 championship sports. The award is selected by the other conference teams in that sport.
North Georgia wins their fourth men’s golf award and will add to the trophy case that already contains awards from 2010, 2012 and 2013. The 14-15 men’s golf award is the 12th overall for the Nighthawks, who are third all-time among PBC schools in awards won. Flagler leads with 19 team awards while Georgia Southwestern is second with 13.
The conference’s annual program presents an award following each championship season to the team in that sport that best exemplifies the spirit of sportsmanship and generally conducts themselves with a high degree of integrity, character and class.
The team award is selected by other teams who compete in that sport. Points are awarded based on how each team finished in the voting and in June, the institution with the highest totals will receive the ‘PBC Institution of the Year Sportsmanship Award.’
North Georgia won the Institution of the Year Sportsmanship Award in 2009-10.
