(ST. SIMONS ISLAND) – The No. 7 University of North Georgia men’s golf team is in fourth place at the Peach Belt Conference Championships after Friday’s opening round in breezy conditions.

Stephen Kinsel was the low Nighthawk on the day and sits in a tie for fourth place after an even-par 71. Kinsel started with a pair of birdies in the first four holes before wrapping up his round with a birdie on 17. Evan Thompson is in a tie for 12th after an opening round score of 2-over 73.

Individually, Flagler’s Mauro Baez shot the low round of the day at 4-under 67 to lead the tournament. The Saints also lead the tournament as a team after an opening round score of even-par 284. Columbus State and Georgia Southwestern sit in a tie for second five shots back with UNG in fourth. Lander is at 15-over in fifth place.

The second round will start Saturday off the 10th tee. Tee times for the Nighthawks start at 8:45 a.m.
