(HELEN) – The Helen City Commission voted Tuesday against the city hosting SoWo in 2016. Southern Worthersee (SoWo) is a German car event that drew 23,000-25,000 people this past weekend in the city, resulting in what city officials described as chaos. It did provide a huge boost to the local economy, but it also created a tremendous challenge for local law enforcement not only in the city of Helen but in various parts of White County where some of the attendees rented cabins and law enforcement officers had to be called to handle incidents.
I think Helen can survive two days. With the amount of money we made it was totally worth it. Not only did Helen make a good chunk of money so did the government/ law enforcement. I work in Helen georgia and its not as big of a deal as people make it out to be. If this is the case they should cancel October fest and everything else because other than the burn outs and violating the road ways it’s no different.
