(SALEM, Va.) – The Piedmont University track & field program saw another record fall at the Joe LaRocco Invitational as senior Nakiyah Washington set the new top distance in the women’s shot put. Her best toss of 11.09m makes her the first to cross the 11-meter mark in school history. In addition to the broken record, senior Gary Halverson returned to the win column again, winning the men’s mile in 4:21.93.
Senior Kerrigan McClain and freshman Matthew Blocksom moved up in the Piedmont record book with solid performances in the men’s shot put. With PRs at the meet, McClain tossed a distance of 11.10m for fifth place all-time while Blocksom’s distance of 10.71m moves him into sixth.
Junior Kai Doyle posted a top 10 finish in the women’s triple jump with a best distance of 10.17m.
Sophomore Silas Goolsby and junior Garrett Stadler went back-to-back in the 60m men’s hurdles, with Goolsby finishing fourth (8.83) while Stadler finished .02 seconds later in fifth (8.85). The duo each also collected another top 10 finish at the meet as Goolsby earned seventh place in the men’s 200m (22.86) and Stadler secured sixth in the men’s high jump (1.79m).
Tucker Cox turned in a PR performance in the men’s mile, running a 4:34.94.
In the women’s 5000m, sophomore Hannah Marlowe posted a season-best time of 20:54.75 and placed seventh overall in the event.
Senior Walker Capelle turned in a top 10 finish in the men’s 5000m, sneaking just below the 16-minute mark with a PR time of 15:58.05.
In the women’s DMR, the team of Kai Doyle, Bella Caccamo, Michelle Cates and Tanea Davis placed second following a time of 4:27.50.
In the men’s DMR, the team of Silas Goolsby, Garrett Stadler, Chris Donsereaux and Gary Halverson placed third after running a collective time of 3:29.09.
Up next, the program travels to the University of South Carolina for the USC Open on Saturday, Feb 17.
