(Cleveland)- During their regular meeting Monday the White County Board of Commissioners voted to find out what it will cost to build a new fire station on the northern end of Duncan Bridge Road in the County.

The commissioners approved obtaining civil engineering and design plans for a three-bay fire station with sleeping quarters for both male and female fire personnel.

Back in 2022, the board approved the purchase of 1.81 acres of land at the corner of Sonnys Circle, Duncan Bridge Road, and Starlight Drive for the purpose of locating a fire station there.

White County Public Safety Director David Murphy Monday night presented a report to the commissioners on the service area for the new station and the proposed type of building they would like to see constructed. Murphy said they would like for the building design to mirror that of Fire Station Three on Garland Bristol Road in Sautee.

When the station is put into operation it will have approximately 2,300 structures in its coverage area and the new fire station will enable property owners to possibly receive a lower insurance coverage rate.
