(Cleveland)- The Georgia Bureau of Investigation Special Agent in Charge of the Appalachian Regional Drug Enforcement Office in Cleveland, Trent Hillsman has been promoted to inspector.

A Madison County native Hillsman began his law enforcement career as a police officer with the University Of Georgia Police Department in 1997. He was later hired by the Madison County Sheriff’s Office as a deputy in 1999. Inspector Hillsman joined the GBI in 2001 and in 2019 was promoted to Special Agent in Charge of the Appalachian Regional Drug Enforcement Office where he served until his promotion to Inspector.

In his new position Hillsman will provide supervisory and administrative oversight to several Investigative Division work units around the state.

GBI Director Chris Hosey commented, “It is my honor to appoint him to this position, and I am confident that Inspector Hillsman will guide and support the work units he oversees well through his extensive experience and unwavering commitment.”

Inspector Hillsman graduated from Piedmont University with a bachelor’s of science degree in Sociology in 1999 and received a Master of Public Safety Administration from Columbus State University in 2020. Inspector Hillsman is a senior member of the GBI Bomb Disposal Unit, a team leader on the Special Enforcement Team, and a member of the GBI Peer Support Team.
