AUGUSTA, Ga. | University of North Georgia senior Brittany Truitt was named the Peach Belt Conference Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week, the league announced on Wednesday. Truitt had quite the weekend at the Christian Brothers’ Brooks Memphis Twilight Invitational, claiming the top spot among Division II runners at the event.

The Villa Rica native posted a 5K time of 18:25.62 to finish 31st overall out of 229 predominantly DI runners. She set the pace for the Nighthawks at the 14th annual Twilight Classic, helping UNG to an 11th place finish in a crowd of 25, and a second-place spot among Division II schools. Her time is the third best 5K time in the NCAA-era at UNG and was just eight seconds off of her personal record time set in 2014 at the USC Beaufort Sand Shark Invitational.

The North Georgia women’s cross country team will hit the course again this weekend traveling to Milledgeville for the Georgia College Bobcat Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 10 at 9 a.m. The Nighthawks host the Fourth Annual UNG Invitational the following Saturday, Sept. 17 at the UNG Cross Country Course on the university’s Gainesville campus.
