(Cleveland)- The City of Cleveland has a new set of Zoning ordinances and Zoning map.

The city council gave their approval to resend the existing ordinance and map and adopt the new set during their called meeting on Tuesday.

Prior to the adoption, the council held two public hearings about the issue during which Economic Development and Planning Director Tom O’Bryant detailed changes that were made.

O’Bryant said the current regulations were adopted in 1970 and over the years there have been several changes made. He said a lot of the language was old and procedures were outdated. A lot of work has gone into the development of the procedures, O’Bryant said, “This has been actually a five-year process we have hit it really hard with the planning and zoning board literally starting about two years ago and we had to update our comprehensive plan, our future land use map, there a whole process for that and then we had a whole series of public hearings on that and then we announced we were undertaking the zoning ordinance update.”

According to O’Bryant this ordinance gets the city up-to-date and provides us with a better way to move forward.

The new ordinance and map will go into effect on November 1.
