HelenPD_patch(HELEN) – Some details of a multi-jurisdictional White County police chase Friday night have been released. Helen Police Chief Jim Couch said HPD Officer Ed Bingham attempted to stop a vehicle for a stop sign violation at South Main Street and Munich Strasse at 11:23 p.m. Friday.

The Ford Expedition finally stopped on South Main Street at Brucken Strasse.  Before Bingham could exit his vehicle, the driver of the SUV put the vehicle in reverse and rammed the front of his  patrol vehicle. The Expedition then left the scene at a high rate of speed.

“Officers of our agency pursued the vehicle southbound outside of the city limits, until deputies of the White County Sheriff’s Office took over the pursuit,” Couch said. “Our units continued to follow at a reduced speed until the vehicle was stopped inside the city limits of Cleveland, where the driver was taken into custody.”

24- year old Kayla Jean Walker, of Cleveland is charged by Helen police with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, fleeing or attempting to elude, interference with government property, driving while license is suspended, failure to stop at a stop sign, and failure to maintain lane.
