Tom O’Bryant, Director White County Community and Economic Development explains the different aspects of the Land Use policies and procedures.

(AgfaPhotoCleveland)- The overwhelming  majority of those attending  Thursdays  public hearing  on Land Use Ordinances conducted by the White County Commissioners expressed their support for  approval.  The public Hearing on a set of draft regulations was the final step in a two and half year process, prior to the commissioners consider  approving the regulations.

The commissioners conducted a three part hearing Thursday, first a public hearing  on the policies and procedures governing the calling and conducting  of public hearings for zoning and land use, next a public hearing on the standards governing the  exercise of zoning power and land use and finally  a public hearing on the adoption of the land use ordinance and land use map.

During each of the  segments the commissioners  stopped to accept  comments  and input from the public.

At the end of the public hearing Commission Chairman Travis Turner explained what will happen next, “ our staff has been making notes, we’ve been making notes and we’ve got a couple of things we need to get a couple answers and clarifications on  and we will do so and as I said, the next couple of weeks  we will be discussing a lot of these clarifications  and looking at moving forward, preferably soon,”  said Turner.

Voters gave their approval in November for the commissioners  move forward to develop a set of land use regulations.
