(Clarkesville)- Habersham EMC members, through the Operation Round Up and Operation Round Up Plus  programs, voluntarily donate funding to help meet various special and individual needs. The  Habersham EMC Foundation, Inc. Board, which consists of Habersham EMC members, oversees  the distribution of these funds.

The following grants were awarded during the October 27, 2016 meeting:

 $2,300 to a Habersham County individual for medical equipment

 $1,261 to a White County individual for a wheel chair

 $2,500 to a White County individual for home repairs

 $1,250 to a White County individual for a wheel chair

 $1,700 to a White County individual for home repairs

 $2,000 to the Habersham County Wall of Honor Inc. for development of the next phase

of the Veterans Wall of Honor Park. The names of all veterans of Habersham County

serving during war and peacetime for all wars and conflicts from The Revolutionary War

to the present will be inscribed onto black granite walls.

 $1,000 to Eagle Ranch to provide bedding for the girls’ home. Eagle Ranch serves

children from 28 counties across North Georgia and Metro Atlanta through an

integrated program of 10 homes; a SACS-accredited school; individual, group and family

counseling.

 $1,000 to Creative Community Services to support the STEP Program. The Successful

Transitions through Empowerment and Planning (STEP) program provides life coaching

and mentoring to teens as they “age out” of the foster care system. STEP teaches them

how to live successfully on their own, while achieving their educational and vocational

goals.

The Operation Round Up program allows HEMC members to “round up” their monthly electric

bills to the next dollar.

The Operation Round Up Plus program allows members to round up their monthly electric bill

to an amount specified by the member (such as $1, $5 or $10).

Through these programs, financial assistance can be provided to individuals and organizations

in the HEMC service area of Habersham, Hall, Lumpkin, Rabun, Stephens and White counties.

More than $1 million dollars has been awarded since HEMC began Operation Round Up in April

2002.
