(DEMOREST) – Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Jim Peeples has announced the promotion of Kristin Whitlock to Associate Head Athletic Trainer. Whitlock returned to her alma mater in the spring of 2024 after spending the previous four years at Emmanuel College.

“I have had the opportunity to observe Kristin over this past year working with our teams and the area that stood out to me is how quickly the student-athletes developed trust in Kristin,” Peeples said. “Like Ashlyn Atnip, having one of your former student-athletes and athletic training graduates back working in your athletic department is tremendous. Kristin has brought knowledge from her experience working in other athletic training staffs at her previous institutions that is helping to improve our athletic training operation by benefiting our ability to continue to provide quality care for all our student-athletes.”

Whitlock began her career at Emmanuel College in August of 2019 and spent time working with men’s and women’s soccer, baseball, softball and men’s and women’s tennis. She also was responsible for updating the EAP (Emergency Action Plan) and drug testing in her role.

While on staff at Emmanuel, Whitlock also served as an adjunct professor from August 2022-December 2023. She also served as a SAAC staff representative for Emmanuel.

“I am blessed with this opportunity to take a leadership role at a place I call home,” Whitlock said. “I cannot wait to see what the future holds for us and where this program is headed.”

“Everyone is being impacted in a positive way from having Kristin back at Piedmont,” Peeples said. “She and Ashlyn will do a tremendous job leading our athletic training area and supporting the students who are going through the athletic training program. Having three graduates, who were former student-athletes and products of Piedmont’s athletic training major, demonstrates how well we are preparing the students in that program. It has been wonderful to bring Kristin back home to Piedmont.”

At Piedmont, Whitlock was a member of the women’s cross country team.

Whitlock earned her bachelor of science in athletic training from Piedmont College in 2019 and her master’s in community nutrition from the University of Georgia in 2022.

She is certified through the BOC and licensed as an Athletic Trainer and a member of the National Athletic Trainer’s Association (NATA) and the American Heart Association.
