(CLEVELAND, Ga.) – On Wednesday, the Truett McConnell University women’s lacrosse team, hosted Emory & Henry College for their season and home opener, where the Lady Bears recorded a stellar performance against the Wasp, 16-12.

PLAY-BY-PLAY
In the first quarter, the Lady Bears started off hot scoring back-to-back goals by Katie Smith and Marlo McBrayer. E&H quickly responded with two goals of their own, eager to remain even with TMU, 2-2. The second quarter saw the Lady Bears once again first to act with an unassisted goal by Smith, followed by a goal by Kaitlyn Morgenroth, assisted by Shelby Nail. The Wasps once again answered with a goal of their own, followed by a goal by Nail in the sixth minute to keep TMU ahead by one. The remainder of the quarter saw the home team put up four more goals, one by Nail, two by Smith and one by McBrayer, to enter halftime leading by four, 9-5.

The third quarter saw a shift in energy for E&H as the Wasps scored three consecutive goals. The Lady Bears were not shaken as two more goals by Morgenroth and one by Nail, kept TMU ahead by three as both teams entered the fourth quarter (12-9). In the final quarter, the Lady Bears proved to be a tough contender against the Wasps, putting four more in the back of the net, one by Morgenroth, one by Nail and two by Smith. A last chance effort by the visiting team attempted to change the outcome of the game but was not enough to stand in the way of a Lady Bears win. Final score, 16-12.

LEADERS
Smith led the way with six goals and two assists. Nail and Morgenroth followed with four goals and one assist apiece, while McBrayer tallied two goals, eight ground balls and 14 draw controls. Maddie Donnelly was featured recording three assists, while Mackenzie Tyler had 10 ground ball pickups. Goalie Sally Marcum tallied five saves on the day.

The Lady Bears will be back in action at home on Saturday, February 10, as they host Warner University for a non-conference match-up, inside the TMU Soccer/Lacrosse Complex. Game time set for 1:00 p.m.
