Rainfall 11-17-15

(Peachtree City)-Moderate to heavy rain is expected across north and central Georgia Wednesday and Wednesday night. The National Weather Service says A strong storm system deepening over the southern plains will lift northeast and drag a cold front across the state late Wednesday through Wednesday night. Forecasters say ahead of the front there will be widespread showers with some thunderstorms.

The rain will be heavy at times before the system exits the region sometime Thursday morning. We could see rainfall totals of 1.5 to 2.5 inches, with locally higher amounts possible. Minor flooding of creeks and rivers is possible in the areas where the heaviest rainfall is expected. North Georgia residents should stay alert for possible flood watches and warning.

In addition the weather services has issued a Wind Advisory in effect from 10 pm Tuesday night until 1 pm Wednesday.  The affected area is along and north of a line from Carrollton to Canton to Cleveland. Forecasters say Southeast winds around 20 to 25 miles per hour with gust as high as 35 MPH are expected, especially in the higher elevations.

Be aware that with these high winds some trees could be downed due to the wet soils in combination with the strong winds, small limbs and branches may also break in these type winds.

Meanwhile …we continue to hold on to a nice surplus of year-to-date rainfall in White County.  Bill Kinsland, WRWH Weather Reporter advises through Monday we have a surplus of 10-point 17 inches.  Bill said so far we have received 67.35 inches of rain, that’s 118 percent of the normal  year-to-date rainfall.

Last week Bill advised we received ½  inch of rainfall.
