(CLEVELAND) – The Truett McConnell University women’s soccer team hosted Tennessee Wesleyan University in an Appalachian Athletic Conference match-up on Saturday, where the No. 22 Lady Bears showed their grit as they battled the rain and Bulldogs to a 2-0 victory. TMU now sits at an overall record of 2-2-2, 2-0 AAC, while the Bulldogs fall to a record of 3-1-1, 2-1 AAC.

PLAY-BY-PLAY
The Lady Bears played sharp throughout the entire first half, outshooting TWU 12-2. Ashley Johnson and Chrissy Mitchell put TMU on the right path at the start with a shot high and a shot on goal, followed by a shot wide from Brianna Hernandez. Back-to-back corner kicks continued to add pressure to the Bulldogs defense, while shots by shots from Eliska Dvorakova and Kristin Beasely showed a resilient TMU offense. TWU was capable of taking shots of their own, followed by a last-minute shot on goal by Lindsey Fowler which sent the game even into the half.

The Lady Bears once again dominated at the start, featuring a shot by Ruffa Meger, Johnson, Isabella Hodson and Hernandez. It wasn’t until the 74th minute that TMU gained the advantage, after a perfectly assisted ball from Meger found the head of Hodson to make the score 1-0. Hodson continued to gain momentum with another shot, while a second ball off the foot of Meger connected with Dvorakova to steal the Lady Bears second goal of the game (2-0). TWU worked hard from behind with four shots in the final minutes of regulation, but TMU could not be stopped as the game ended with the Lady Bears on top 2-0.

LEADERS
Dvorakova led the way for the Lady Bears with one goal and six shots, four on goal, while Meger recorded a single shot on goal and two stellar assists. Hodson made her mark with a goal of her own and three shots, one on goal, followed by Hernandez who had three shots, Fowler who had two shots and Mitchell who had two shots.

The Lady Bears will hit the road on Wednesday, Sept. 20, to face AAC competitor Columbia College at 3:30 p.m.
