Peace Officers Memoriial Day(Cleveland)- White County Sheriff Neal Walden says, if you see flags at half staff Friday there’s a good reason for that, it’s Peace Officers Memorial Day, held each May 15th to honor federal, state and local officers killed or disabled in the line of duty.  The observance is held in conjunction with Police Week.

President John F Kennedy signed the bill into law on October 1, 1962 that set aside the day and directed government officials to display the  United States flag at half staff state. Local governments and  citizens are asked to observe the day with appropriate ceremonies and activities.

Sheriff  Walden said his officers will be wearing black bands across their badges Friday in observance of the day.
