(Ccold-thermometer 2-17--15leveland)-  Northeast Georgians awoke Thursday morning to record cold temperatures  with reading in the single digits.  Here in Cleveland we had 6 degrees,  6 at Sautee,  8 in Helen and 7 at Three Sisters Vineyards. For Cleveland and Sautee those were record  lows.  The previous lows were 19  recorded in 2013.  Helen missed a record low by one degrees, their previous record low of 7 set in 1958.

Wednesday’s 16 degrees in Cleveland  also set a record, the previous low was 19, set In 2013  and Sautee’s 18 tied a record also recorded in 2013.  Helen’s record for Wednesday  is minus 1 degree set in 1958.

Dealing with these record low temperatures is made even more difficult for those who still don’t have power.  Habersham Electric Membership Corp. crews along with other power company crews worked yesterday and got a large number of people back on.  As of 10 am  Thursday morning there were still 1488  total customers without power , 400 of those were in White County.  The goal of Habersham Electric is to have everyone back on by the end of today.

The National Weather Service has again extended the  Wind Chill Warning until 7 AM Friday morning and we have a Winter Storm Watch in effect from Friday afternoon through Saturday afternoon, for possible Snow, Sleet and freezing rain.
