CENTRAL, S.C. | Trevor Sams went 3-for-5 including two home runs in the University of North Georgia baseball team’s 11-2 victory at Southern Wesleyan Wednesday evening. The Nighthawks improve to 27-19 on the year after picking up the win in their last road game of 2016.

North Georgia got to work quickly at the plate, scoring three runs in the top of the first, highlighted by a RBI double down the left field line by Sam Tidaback.

Sams made it a 5-0 game with his first two-run shot of the night in the third and the junior picked up another two-run homer in the next inning as the Nighthawks extended their lead to 9-0.

UNG added single runs in both the fifth and seventh innings on solo home runs from Connor Hoover and Conner Corbitt, respectively.

The Warriors were finally able to crack through with a pair of runs in the bottom of the ninth to give the game its final score, 11-2.

Derrick Pickvet (2-2) earned the win pitching 3.0 innings out of the bullpen, allowing just two hits against the 11 batters that he faced.

Andrew Howard (4-4) was tagged with the loss allowing 10 earned runs on 10 hits and two walks in his 4.1 innings pitched.

North Georgia will wrap up its regular season this weekend hosting Emmanuel in a three game series. First pitch forFriday’s series opener is set for 7 p.m.
