White County Commissioner Lyn Holcomb ( Front Right) Joined County Road Department Workers in accepting tires for recycling

(Cleveland)- The scrap tire amnesty day that White County conducted last Saturday was a huge success.

Derick Canupp White County Public Works Director said, “ we collected 845 tires from communities across White County. These tires will be transported to a recycling facility that will convert them back into raw materials that will be used to produce other goods.”

He said some of the types of products made with recycled tires are molded rubber goods, flooring, rubberized asphalt, athletic surfaces, and landscape mulch.

According to Canupp the project cost of $15,000 was funded through a grant the county was able to obtain from the Georgia EPD.

Canupp said he wanted to thank all those who brought tires to the road department and because it was so successful they will be working to obtain funding again next year.
