(LAURINBURG, N.C.) – On Tuesday, the Truett McConnell University women’s volleyball team traveled to compete in an Appalachian Athletic Conference match-up, hosted by St. Andrews University, where the Lady Bears banded together to take down the Knights, 3-0 (25-18, 25-17, 25-23). TMU advances their overall record 12-6, 6-1 AAC, while SAU falls to a record of 4-7, 3-4 AAC.

PLAY-BY-PLAY

The Lady Bears showed their grit early in set one, with a five-point rally featuring kills by Katie Williams and Katie Williamson, paired with a service ace by Madyson Dunn (6-2). TMU continued to keep the lead with a four-point rally, featuring three consecutive kills by Rylee Simpson and Williamson. Final kills be Simpson and Williamson sealed the deal in set one for the Lady Bears, 25-18. In the second set, SAU was first to act putting three on the board. TMU quickly responded with three points of their own, featuring a kill by Faith Clarkson. The Lady Bears were not shaken as kills by Williams, Jordan Roberts and Ranavia Neal put them ahead by six (16-10). A final kill by Neal and Williams gave TMU what was needed to take set two, 25-17.

The final set saw the Lady Bears first on the board with a kill by Neal. The set remained evenly matched until a five-point rally by the Knights gave them the lead. Without hesitation, TMU overcame the set back to pull ahead of the Knights, as final kills by Neal and Clarkson gave the Lady Bears the win in set three, 25-23.

LEADERS

Williams led the way for the Lady Bears with 13 kills, 15 digs and one block assist. Neal followed closely behind, recoding 13 kills of her own, while Williamson recorded 11 kills. Clarkson tallied seven kills, while Roberts recorded five kills, one solo block and a block assist. Simpson recorded 42 assists on the evening.
