(KNOXVILLE, Tenn.) – On Saturday, the Truett McConnell University baseball team remained in Knoxville, Tenn. to conclude their weekend series against Appalachian Athletic Conference opponent, Johnson University. The Bears had a hard fought 10-6 victory over the Royals. TMU improves to a record of 20-17, 14-10 AAC, while the Royals fall to 12-33, 2-25 AAC.
PLAY-BY-PLAY
The Bears were first on the board in the second inning, starting with a Matt Redmond double. A Cade Kiniry double and a Tanner Griffith ball scored two to end the inning (2-0). In the fourth inning, Griffith was hit by a pitch and stole second. A Mikal Mascarello single scored Griffith to raise the score to 3-0. In the fifth inning, TMU was able to add two more runs to their score, but the Royals tied the score up 5-5. In the eighth, a Mascarello walk and a Brady Wilson single put runners in scoring position. An Ethan Roberts single scored two runs, making the score 7-5. The Royals quickly retaliated with one run, making the score 7-6. An offensive outburst from the Bears occurred in the ninth inning. A Kiniry single, followed by a Griffith single and a Will Ingram sacrifice fly made the score 8-6. Bases loaded and a single from Russell Kiser scored two, securing the Bears 10-6 victory over the Royals.

LEADERS
Mascarello led the way offensively, going 3-4 at the plate with one RBI and two runs. Kiniry followed going 3-5 at the plate with two RBIs and two runs. Griffith was 2-5, while Redmond was 2-6 with one RBI. Ingram and Wilson were also both 1-4 at the plate.
