(WEST POINT, Ga.) – On Saturday, the Truett McConnell University men’s soccer team traveled to face Point University, where the Bears secured their first Appalachian Athletic Conference win of the season (2-0). TMU rises to a record of 3-1-1, 1-1 AAC, while the Skyhawks fall to 0-5-1, 0-2 AAC.

PLAY-BY-PLAY

In the first period, the Bears had stellar defense to prevent the Skyhawks from taking an early lead. TMU saw its first shot of the day with a corner kick from Oscar Brennan, followed by a shot from Will Fraser-Gray that just missed high. A shot on goal from Maury Ibarra gave TMU hope but sent both teams into the half 0-0.

In the second period, the Bears capitalized early with a goal from Jose Ventura in the 46th minute (1-0). TMU continued to play remarkable defense and kept the Skyhawks on their toes. A corner kick from Nour Alamri set the pace, giving Brennan the final goal of the evening (2-0). The Bears held the Skyhawks off to secure a 2-0 victory.

LEADERS

Ventura and Brennan led the way with one shot, one on goal, and one goal apiece. Ibarra followed closely with two shots, one on goal. Goalie Daniel Santema had an exceptional evening with 10 saves.

The Bears return to the TMU Soccer Complex on Saturday, September 17 to face Bob Jones University. Kickoff is set for 6:00 p.m.
