(CLEVELAND) – On Wednesday, the Truett McConnell University men’s basketball team hosted Reinhardt University for their Appalachian Athletic Conference opener, where the Bears soared past the Eagles, 99-75. TMU rises to an overall record of 2-1, 1-0 AAC, while RU falls to a record of 0-2, 0-1 AAC.

PLAY-BY-PLAY
TMU was hot out the gate with two layups and two good free throws by Akil Covington paired with a tip-in by KJ Riley to begin the game with an eight-point lead. The Bears dominated the court early, increasing the scoring margin by 21 points with jump shots by EJ Smith and Riley, followed by layups from Cainan Wright and Covington. The Bears continued to prove to be a tough competitor with a three pointer by Yeh, leaving the Eagles behind by 27 points as they entered the half 63-36. 

In the second half, the visiting team was first to act, attempting to bridge the widened gap, but was short lived as a three pointer by Riley and a jumper by Brown continued to increase the Bears lead. The Bears continued to dominate the court as back-to-back three-pointers by Riley and layups by Cory Seitz and Yeh sealed TMU’s position, securing the win with a final score of 99-75.

LEADERS
Riley led the way for the Bears with 18 points and six rebounds while going 4-5 at the three-point arch. Smith followed with 17 points and seven rebounds, while going 6-7 at the free throw line. Covington was seen tallying 15 points and nine rebounds, while Yeh had 14 points and four rebounds. Seitz and Brown recorded 10 points apiece, respectfully.

The Bears will travel to Bluefield, Virginia on Saturday, November 11, to take on Bluefield University in an AAC match-up. Tip-off set for 2:00 p.m.
