(PIKEVILLE, Ky.) – On Tuesday, the Truett McConnell University women’s basketball team traveled to compete in an Appalachian Athletic Conference match-up against the University of Pikeville, where the Lady Bears fell in a tough battle against UPike, 82-37. TMU falls to an overall record of 1-6, 1-3 AAC, while UPike rises to a record of 3-2, 3-2 AAC.

PLAY-BY-PLAY
In the first period, UPike was first on the board, with the Lady Bears quickly responding with a layup by Kacie Williams. UPike took an early lead forcing TMU to work hard from behind, when a layup by Destinee Lovejoy gave the Lady Bears hope to recover. A good free throw by Alysee Dobbs followed by a layup by Williams began the second period as TMU worked to decrease the gap. A layup by Alexis Brewster paired with a three-pointer by Williams gave TMU a fighting chance as they entered the half, 15-44.

The third period saw a shift in momentum from the Lady Bears as a three-pointer by Dobbs added to TMU’s score. TMU continued to work as a three pointer by Ava Queen, assisted by Williams, followed by layups by Williams and Brewster decreased the margin (31-62). In the final period, Brewster once again took charge with a good layup. A last chance effort by Williams and Sydnie Smith put two more layups on the board, but was ultimately not enough as the Lady Bears fell to a final score of 37-82.

LEADERS
Williams led the way for the Lady Bears with 14 points and three rebounds, while going 3-4 in free-throws, followed by Brewster with 12 points and three rebounds. Dobbs was seen tallying four points, while Queen had three points and five rebounds. Lovejoy and Smith recorded two points apiece.

The Lady Bears will be back in action on Wednesday, November 29, as they travel to face AAC opponent Bryan College. Tip-off set for 5:30 p.m.
