(LAWRENCEVILLE) – On Sunday, the Truett McConnell University men’s soccer team traveled to compete in the Labor Day Grizzly Classic, hosted by Georgia Gwinnett College, where TMU bested Lawrence Tech University, 2-1.

In the first half, the Blue Devils were first to act with two shots. TMU was quick to respond and take the lead with a goal by Max Farris in the 22nd minute (1-0). Lawrence Tech attempted to make a move near the end of the half with two back-to-back shots, but keeper Aleksa Lukic stayed sharp with two stellar saves as TMU headed into the half leading 1-0.

In the second half, the Bears once again took charge, increasing the score in the 56th minute with a goal by Oscar Brennan, assisted by Jez Walker-Paterson and Ogi Vrkic (2-0). A last chance goal by the Blue Devils in the 84th minute, attempted to put them on top, but great defense by TMU helped secure the win with a final score of 2-1.

LEADERS

Farris and Brennan led the way for the Bears with one goal apiece. Walker-Paterson followed with one shot and one assist. Maury Ibarra recorded one shot on goal, while Vrkic had one assist. Keeper Lukic had eight saves on the day.

The Bears will travel to Grayson, Ky. on Saturday, September 9 for their first Appalachian Athletic Conference match-up of the season. Kick-off set for 12:30 p.m.
