(CLEVELAND, Ga.) – The Truett McConnell University baseball team hosted Florida Palms University inside the TMU Baseball complex for a non-conference match-up. The Bears recorded 19 hits to soar past Florida Palms with a final score of 17-1, improving TMU  to a record of 4-1.

PLAY-BY-PLAY 

The Bears were on the board early with a double from Tanner Griffith, a home run over the center field fence from Andrew Johnston in the bottom of the first inning and single from Jake Edwards in the bottom of the first (3-0). The Florida Palms scored their lone run of the game in the second inning on a single (3-1), but an executed  bunt from Dylan SargentMatthew Redmond walk and single from Griffith pushed a run across the board to add to the Bears lead (4-1). The third inning saw a single from Edwards, Caleb Gentry and Sargent double to widen the gap (7-1). The sixth inning was pivotal for TMU, starting with a Redmond hit-by-pitch and singles from Griffith and Johnston. With runners in scoring position, a double from Mikal Mascarello and singles from Jacob Karvelas and Russell Kiser created a large deficit (12-1). A sacrifice fly from Gage Gray combined with a single from Trevor Slaick raised the score to 14-1, followed by a Caleb Williams double to right field paired with singles from Johnston and Mascarello ultimately put the game out of reach to secure a 17-1 victory over Florida Palms.

LEADERS

Griffith led the way offensively, going 4-4 at the plate with one RBI and two runs. Johnston followed, going 3-5 at the plate with four RBIs and two runs. Mascarello was seen going 3-5 at the plate with two RBIs and three runs, while Edwards was 2-3 with one RBI and two runs.

Pitcher Caleb Johnson recorded his second win of the season, recording five strikeouts and only allowing four hits and one run over six innings.
