(MONTREAT, N.C.) – On Monday, the Truett McConnell University softball team traveled to face Appalachian Athletic Conference opponent, Montreat College, where the Lady Bears swept in dominating fashion (10-3, 8-0). TMU improves to a record of 13-16, 6-2 AAC, while the Cavaliers fall to a record of 4-25, 2-10 AAC.
 
GAME 1 | 10-3
In game one, the Lady Bears scored early with a Lexi Simonton single, followed by a Kyndall Gipson double to score Simonton (1-0). The Bears continued to add to their lead with a Justine Kennington single, followed by a stolen base. An Alicia Price single scored Kennington, increasing the score to 2-0. The top of the third saw TMU’s largest scoring streak, starting with a Briley Lawson double. A Mattie Brooks single put runners in scoring position, where a Rachel Morgan single scored both (4-0). Kennington tripled to score Morgan, leaving the Lady Bears up 5-0. The Cavaliers scored two of their own in the third, but TMU retaliated with a Price single and a B. Lawson homerun over the right-field fence (7-0). The top of the sixth saw TMU collect two more runs and a last-minute attempt from the Cavaliers in the sixth (9-3). The Lady bears scored once again in the top of the seventh to secure a 10-3 victory over the Cavaliers.
 
LEADERS
Price led the way offensively, going 4-4 at the plate with one RBI and two runs. B. Lawson followed, going 3-4 with two RBIs and two runs. Brooks was 3-4 at the plate with one run, while Kennington was 3-4 with one RBI and two runs. Gipson closed out by going 2-4 at the plate with two RBIs.
 
Pitcher Kyleigh Sanders threw a complete game, recording seven strikeouts and only allowing four hits. Sanders recorded her fifth win of the season.
 
GAME 2 | 8-0
In game two, TMU had a slower start. In the top of the second, Kennington started a rally with a single, where a Mikayla Sullens single scored Kennington (1-0). In the top of the third, a B. Lawson homerun gave the Lady Bears a 2-0 advantage. The fourth saw a Kennington single, followed by a stolen base. A Price single scored Kennington to make the score 3-0. The bats busted open in the fifth, starting with a Morgan single to score pinch-runner, Morgan Chancey, from second (4-0). A Kennington in the park homerun scored two to make it 6-0. The Lady Bears secured the run rule in the top of the sixth with an Anna Thomas walk and Simonton single to load the bases. A sacrifice fly from B. Lawson scored Price, followed by a Gipson single to score Thomas, securing a Lady Bears 8-0 victory.
 
LEADERS
Kennington led the way at the plate, going 3-3 with two RBIs and three runs. B. Lawson followed, going 2-2 with two RBIs and one run. Price was also 2-2 at the plate and tallied one RBI and one run. Gipson and Morgan were both 1-4 at the plate with one RBI apiece.

The Lady Bears return to the TMU Softball Complex on Friday, April 1, for a double-header against AAC foe, Columbia International University. Game times are set for 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.
