(CLEVELAND) – The Truett McConnell University women’s basketball team secured a big Appalachian Athletic Conference win over Bluefield University on Saturday, where the Lady Bears battled all four quarters to come out on top with a score of 60-47. TMU improved to a record of 13-10, 9-8 AAC, while Bluefield fell to a record of 8-10, 8-8 AAC.

PLAY-BY-PLAY

A good layup by Jessica Jackson and a Ra’Tavia Floyd three-pointer gave the Lady Bears an early lead (5-0). The Rams took a few strong runs to even the play, capable of stealing the lead at the end of the first quarter (17-9). Bluefield remained ahead for the majority of the second quarter, until a good free throw by Floyd and a Natalie Nixon three-pointer evened the game (22-22).

The Rams took a final shot of the half to stay ahead (24-22), while quarter three saw TMU gain momentum to take back the lead with a Jackson three-pointer and a Floyd shot in the paint (27-26). A final shot from Camilla Callihan put the Lady Bears up 43-32 at the end of the third quarter, forcing the Rams to work under pressure. TMU could not be stopped in the final quarter, as they continued to increase the gap, ultimately securing the win after two final good free throws from Natalie Nixon (60-47).

LEADERS

Floyd led the way with 23 points, along with four assists and three steals. Jackson recorded 11 points and nine rebounds, while Callihan had six points and two steals, Alysee Dobbs had six points and three steals, Nixon had five points and Quan Holton had four points and four assists.
