(CLEVELAND, Ga.) – On Wednesday, the Truett McConnell University women’s basketball team hosted Toccoa Falls College for their home-opener, where the Lady Bears recorded a dominating win, 81-56, over the Screaming Eagles. TMU rises to a record of 1-1.
PLAY-BY-PLAY
The match-up started off even in the first quarter with the Lady Bears taking the first chance with a layup by Destinee Lovejoy. Both teams continued to battle as TFC produced an early lead, keeping TMU on their toes. Two made three-pointers by Madison Aguilera, continued to keep the match anyone’s game as the Lady Bears ended the quarter trailing by five, 15-20. TMU found a shift in momentum during the second quarter as a jump shot by Mahalah Stewart began play. A three-pointer by Aguilera, paired with good shots by Alexis Brewster and Lovejoy, proved the Lady Bears capable of taking over the lead. TMU continued to increase the margin by 13 points as a three-pointer by Kayleigh Kelley, and layups by Brewster and Lovejoy ended the first half, 48-35.
In the third quarter, TMU worked hard on both sides of the ball, holding TFC to four points and scoring 19 of their own, featuring layups by Lovejoy, Brewster, Brinkley Kate Reed and Ava Queen. TMU entered the fourth quarter leading by 28 points as the Lady Bears worked to secure the win. The final quarter saw action from both teams as TFC attempted to recover from the Lady Bears strong third quarter but was ultimately proven unsuccessful as two final made free throws by Jordynn Webster sealed the deal on a win, 81-56.
LEADERS
Most notable, Lovejoy was featured recording 27 points, going 10-13 in field goals and 6-8 at the free throw line, while tallying six rebounds. Aguilera followed with 13 points and three assists, while Brewster had 12 points and eight rebounds. Kelley was seen recording six points and nine rebounds, respectfully.
