(CLEVELAND) – The Truett McConnell University women’s cross country team is set to begin their 2023 season on Friday, September 8 at the GMC Brickyard Invitational, hosted by Georgia Military College.

“We’ve got high expectations for the women’s team this year. We finished on a really high note last year by qualifying as a team for the National Championship meet for the first time in school history. The entire team, with the exception of Savannah Campbell who graduated in May, is returning. We’ve also added a few talented freshmen and a transfer, so as long as we can stay healthy, we should be able to perform at a high level throughout the course of the season,” says Head Coach Jarret Holland.

Graduate student Hannah Canady and sophomore Sara Owen are amongst the core group of returners for the women’s team. Owen was seen individually qualifying for the NAIA National Championship last season as a freshman, along with the team receiving an at-large berth to nationals for the first time in program history. The Lady Bears schedule includes four total invitationals before the Appalachian Athletic Conference Championship in November.
