(Cleveland)- The operator of an ultralight aircraft was seriously injured Friday afternoon when the aircraft he was operating crashed into a hanger alongside the runway at the Mountain Air Park, east of Cleveland. Witnesses say the aircraft got airborne but they knew he was in trouble, by the way it sounded.
The pilot, who was not identified, was believed to be in his late 40’s or early 50’s and reportedly, received some serious injuries.
Witnesses ran to the crash site and help pull the victim from the wreckage, because fuel was leaking out.
White County Emergency Medical Service transported the victim to the hospital. Fire personnel stood by until they were able to stop the leaking gasoline and it was pulled away from the hanger.
One person on scene said they believed the pilot had just purchased the aircraft from someone else at the park.
Due to the type of aircraft, an investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board or FAA will not be conducted.
