CHARLOTTE, N.C. | The University of North Georgia women’s cross country team, currently ranked fifth in the region, is set to participate in the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional on Saturday, Nov. 7. The 6K race is hosted by Wingate with the pistol scheduled to sound at 10:30 a.m. at the Wingate Cross Country Course.

The women’s race will include over 30 teams and 200 student-athletes. All participants are from the NCAA Division II Southeast Region, which includes the Peach Belt Conference, the South Atlantic Conference and Conference Carolinas.

The top three teams from each of the eight regions will automatically advance to the NCAA Division II Championship finals. The top three individuals who are not part of a qualifying team will also automatically advance to the championship finals.

The advancing teams and individuals will advance to the NCAA Division II Championship meet hosted by Missouri Southern State on Saturday, Nov. 21 at the Tom Rutledge Cross Country Course in Joplin, Mo.

North Georgia is currently ranked fifth in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Southeast region poll.

Earlier this season, North Georgia earned its second consecutive runner-up finish at the Peach Belt Conference Championship race on Oct. 24.

Last season, UNG finished second at the 2014 NCAA Division II Southeast regional earning the program’s first-ever bid to the National Championship where the Nighthawks finished 31st.
