DAHLONEGA | The University of North Georgia men’s and women’s basketball teams will tip off the 2015-16 season by hosting the Peach Belt Conference / Conference Carolinas Challenge on November 13-14 in UNG’s Memorial Hall. The two-day, eight-team event is presented by Steak-n-Shake of Dahlonega.

The classic-style event will feature North Georgia and Francis Marion of the Peach Belt and Erskine and North Greenville of Conference Carolinas on the women’s side.

UNG and Georgia College will represent the PBC in the men’s event with alternating games with Pfeiffer and Emmanuel.

On the women’s side, North Georgia is on the heels of the program’s second consecutive 20-win season as the Nighthawks finished 21-9 and reached the Peach Belt Conference tournament semifinals.

UNG returns four of five starters from a year ago including PBC preseason All-Conference selection Kelsey Hutchins,Molly Rainwater, Cierra Jackson and Lauren Pounds.

UNG was voted to finish fifth in the PBC’s preseason poll.

On the men’s side, North Georgia missed out on a spot in the PBC tournament on a tiebreak last season but finished with a 15-11 overall mark and a tie for fourth in the division. The Nighthawks return nearly their entire squad this season with eight of their top nine scorers returning, including their top six who averaged a combined 60 points per game.

The North Georgia men were voted by league coaches to finish fourth in the annual preseason poll.

Steak-n-Shake, the event’s presenting sponsor, opened he doors of the newest Dahlonega restaurant on Monday (Nov. 9) morning by giving away a year of free food to the first 100 customers. The restaurant is located at 269 Morrison Moore Parkway.
