(JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn.) –  The University of North Georgia men’s tennis team got the 2024 spring season off on the right foot with a 5-2 non-conference road win at Carson-Newman on Wednesday afternoon at C-N’s Buddy Catlett Tennis Center.

North Georgia got the afternoon started by winning the doubles point as Joaquin Benoit and Robin Eldin (No. 1) and Giulio Sassi and Marcos Castellanos (No. 2) recorded 6-3 and 6-2 victories respectively at the top two lines.

Eldin and Castellanos would stretch the Nighthawk lead with decisive victories at No. 4 and 5 singles.

Benoit, ranked No. 22 nationally and fourth regionally, also grabbed a singles victory with a 7-5, 4-6, 7-5 win at No. 1 singles over Marnix Van Dalen, ranked 14th in the region. It marked his 40th career singles victory as a Nighthawk and moves him into a tie for fifth on the career victories ledger.

Eliseo Alcalde grabbed North Georgia’s fifth point with a 7-6, 6-2 win in the sixth singles line.

North Georgia returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 10 with home non-conference match against Newberry. First serves are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. at the UNG Tennis Complex at Yahoola Creek Park.
