(CLEVELAND) – A White County Middle School student was airlifted for medical treatment Tuesday night after suffering an injury during a sports match. White County School Superintendent Dr.  Jeff Wilson,  said Wednesday the incident involved an eighth-grade student who received a head injury during a soccer game around 7 p.m.

Wilson said the student, who he did not identify, received a cut on his head and was not responding well when personnel talked to him, so they sought medical attention. After medical personnel examined him they made the decision to fly him to an Atlanta area hospital for treatment.  Wilson said doctors stitched up the cut, performed a CT scan and kept the young man overnight.

Wilson said he visited the student Wednesday and the young man was doing well, and was expected to be released from the hospital. Doctors asked the teen to take it easy for a couple of days.
