(Cleveland)- It was a long night Tuesday for the tabulation of election results in White County, issues with the system that helps validate write-in candidates, which was a statewide issue, and some of the election results were not available until after midnight.

White County elections officials had no problem counting the regular votes that were cast and Election Supervisor Amie Veater said in the General Election voting in White County there was a total  Voter Turnout of 77% , which includes advance, absentee, and day of election.

The final but unofficial numbers place the number of ballots cast at 16,923.

All but one of the local positions had already been determined in the primary voting in May. Still, the race for Board of Education District 1 incumbent candidate Jon Estes did see a challenge from write-in candidate Shelly McDonald.  Estes easily won that seat, receiving 13, 689 votes.

At last count, McDonald received 51 votes but Veater advised that there were still 1,635 unresolved write-in votes.

Another area of interest for White County voters was the Special Use Sales Tax (SPLOST) White County voters overwhelmingly approved the continuation of the one-penny sales tax. The Yes vote total was 10,447, no vote was 5,771.

In the presidential race, 84 percent of White County voters cast a ballot for Donald Trump with Kamala Harris receiving 14.5 percent of the votes.
