(Cleveland)- White County officials are keeping tabs on a tropical storm in the Gulf of Mexico that could bring some heavy rain to our area by the end of the week.

Weather officials say Tropical Storm Francine is expected to form later today. Francine is forecast to track north, and northeast along the Texas coast before making landfall as a CAT 1 hurricane south of Baton Rouge near Morgan City Louisiana Wednesday night. Forecasters believe the system will quickly downgrade to tropical storm status as she moves north along the Mississippi River.

Don Strength, White County Public Safety  Division Chief, said, “White County will be on the right side of the storm, which is typically the stormy side. We will need to monitor the development of this storm closely, but for now, it appears the worst weather will be to our west.” He said, “Periods of Tropical Showers with brief heavy rain may begin in White County as early as Wednesday night but looks more likely Thursday through Friday.”

He added,” A few strong to severe storms can’t be ruled out.”

Any shift east of the expected track could significantly change the forecast and our long-range plans, according to Strength.
