(Cleveland)- While some area county governments and Boards of Education have approved or are close to approving this year’s property tax millage rate White County is lagging behind in the process.
During their county commission meeting Tuesday White County Commission Chairman Travis Turner said White County is still waiting on final tax digest information. He noted that Tax Commissioner Cindy Cannon just received the information from the tax assessor’s office last Friday.
Turner acknowledges that, “this is uncommon for us not to have already started advertising dates for any upcoming millage rate hearings and or meetings.” It could be as late as August before they could adopt a millage rate for this year.
Turner said, “I’m sorry that’s the best we can do because it’s the hand we’ve been dealt by the assessor’s office currently.”
