Local – The chilly temperatures weren’t enough to dampen the holiday spirits of White County residents last night. As a smaller than normal, but still large crowd, gathered along the mile-long route for the Christmas parade on the square, adorned in masks, and doing their best to distance and enjoy the festive evening.

Local businesses set up booths on the west side of the square around 5 pm, and by 7-o’clock, the streets were lined with people waiting to see the parade floats and watch for Santa to cruise by.

The White County Honor Guard began the parade followed by the White County Marching Band as well as the Cheerleaders and Color Guard. Various lighted vehicles were seen passing through, such as bicycles, ATV’s, Golf Carts, along with other cars and trucks and trailers, even a dad pushing a lighted baby stroller. A few Jeeps got in on the action by stopping on the square to show-off some of their off-road abilities by driving upon each other’s tires.

Also lighted and well seen, were service trucks from Trailwave, Windstream, and Griffin Wrecker Service.

Bringing up the rear was Santa, who traded in his sleigh for the evening, instead riding atop an antique fire truck.

With assistance from the City of Cleveland Police Department and the White County Sheriff’s Department, traffic was diverted around town with little to no traffic impairment. Officials were present to block any other traffic while pedestrians crossed the roadway and got back to their vehicles safe.
