(Cleveland)- In just a few short weeks school will be back in session for another year. White County School Nutrition has announced during the upcoming school year, breakfast and lunch will be free to all students, regardless of household income.

Abby Rowland, White County School Nutrition Director said the school system is participating in the USDA Community Eligibility Program, which enables them to offer the free meals.

Rowland said as part of the program aside from the free meals families will not have to complete an application for the students to participate.

Ala carte items will be for sale in each of the schools cafeterias, said Rowland. These items include snacks, beverages, and additional food choices beyond the standard breakfast and lunch provided through the school nutrition program. To purchase these items, students must have funds available in their school meal account or bring cash for payment.

Rowland encourage parents to ensure that their child’s meal account has sufficient funds to accommodate any purchases they may wish to make.

While meals will be provided free of charge under this program, any existing unpaid balances on school meal accounts from previous years must still be settled. Participating in CEP does not erase or forgive outstanding debts accrued prior to its implementation.

Parents who might have any questions about the Community Eligibility Program or how it will affect your child, please feel free to contact the White County School Nutrition Office at 706-865-2315 ext. 1703
