The Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) announced early Monday afternoon that J’Quayveon Williams has been named the Conference Player of the Week. Williams is a Junior Psychology major from Lake Wales, Florida.

Williams had a double-double last week with 20 points and 12 rebounds in Truett-McConnell’s 80-55 win over Columbia International University. Williams’ best game this season was against Union College as he hit 11 of 15 shots in scoring 30 points and grabbing 15 rebounds. It was also during this game that Williams scored his 1,000th career point for Truett-McConnell. He is the all-time rebounding leader at Truett with 718 rebounds and is currently ranked Number 7 in Divison II NAIA in total rebounds per game with a 10.35 average. His 207 total rebounds for the season ranks him seventh in the nation. Williams also averages 16.8 points per game.

“Quay’s award is well-deserved,” said Head Coach Jon Yeh. “He was a big reason why we got off to a fast start against Columbia International; the player of the week nod is a nice add-on to cap off a week where he was honored for scoring his 100th career point. Quay is a potential double-double player every time he steps onto the court and my hope is that he gets even more selfish. Any time you have a player shooting close to 60 percent from the field, you would like him to get as many touches as possible.”

This is the first time this season that Williams has garnered Player of the Week and the next set of honors will be announced on February 1st at 2:00 PM.

Williams and the rest of the Truett-McConnell Bears Basketball team will return to action this Wednesday, January 27th, when they travel to Sumter, South Carolina to take on the Hornets from Morris College. The game is scheduled to tip at 7:00 PM.
