(LITTLE ROCK, Ark.) – Windstream has  announced it is expanding its 1-Gig Internet service to provide residents and small businesses in North Georgia with ultra-fast Internet speed.

A press release from the company said, the 1-Gig Internet service will be available to eligible customers across 15 North Georgia communities including Blairsville, Byron, Clarkesville, Cleveland, Colbert, Dahlonega, Dawsonville, Haddock, Jasper, Jeffersonville, Lakeland, Milledgeville, Noble, Pendergrass and Springfield.

Jarrod (“J”) Berkshire, president of operations for Windstream in Georgia said,  “We’re extremely proud to share that Georgia represents one of the first five states in the Windstream footprint to have access to our ultra-fast 1-Gig Internet service. ”

He said,  “Many of the investments and infrastructure upgrades we set in motion years ago are in the final stages of completion, which is now allowing us to roll out faster and more reliable Internet speeds across North Georgia.

While 1-Gig represents a significant milestone, we’re excited to say that there is more progress to come in 2017.”

According to the release last  month, Windstream completed its first stage of a large scale cable system network enhancement in North Georgia to provide more than 67,000 residents with access to cable modem Internet speeds of up to 100 megabits-per-second (Mbps). The first community to benefit from this upgrade is Blairsville, with over 6,000 households now having access to speeds up to 100 Mbps.

Windstream plans to continue its deployment of faster speed technologies in additional North Georgia communities throughout 2017.
